CBS Sony Logo Split - H 2012

Pivotal Research Group’s Brian Wieser said CBS would gain exposure in fast-growing countries.

CBS should buy Sony Pictures Entertainment, a Wall Street analyst said in a research note Tuesday.

Brian Wieser of Pivotal Research Group told clients that CBS will have cash for major acquisitions now that it has decided to turn CBS Outdoor in the Americas into an REIT while selling off the European portion of that business, as hollywoodreporter.com

“First and foremost, among potential targets we think that at the right price, SPE offers a very strong fit for CBS,” he wrote.

“If we assume SPE were worth around $10 billion in enterprise value and were capable of high-single-digit profit margins, such an acquisition would not be dilutive and would be strategically beneficial,” wrote Wieser. Read more about the article here: http://bit.ly/10vMIbW

The analyst also noted that CBS chief executive Leslie Moonves has expressed an interest in SPE.”Moonves indicated in the press that SPE is the kind of business that CBS would be interested in purchasing,” Wieser wrote. “However, Sony has reiterated several times that the division is not for sale.”

The multiplatinum songbird will be performing her hit song “Skyfall” at the Academy Awards next month, the show’s organizers announced Wednesday, eonline.com reported

“Skyfall” single was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London, where famous albums were previously created by The Beatles and Pink Floyd. It was released on October 5 (Global James Bond day), and it debuted at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is the first Bong song nominated for an Oscar since “For Your Eyes Only” in 1981. The album is also the highest charting since 1985’s A VIEW TO A KILL. It is the second Bond soundtrack in the franchise’s 50-year history to not feature the title track on the album and is solely comprised of the Oscar-nominated score of Thomas Newman.

Bad Religion - True North (Cover Artwork)

True North is their 13th album but there’s a fine line between honing a very specific sound that can define a band, and creating redundant and stale music. For more than 30 years, Bad Religion have proven that age is merely a number, and relentlessly churned out legendary records. The band’s latest offering True North serves as a culmination and retrospective of their storied history.

The title track starts the record with an instant melody that could never be mistaken for anyone but Bad Religion. The urgent beat converges with the soaring harmonies of the chorus, triggering memories of Recipe for Hate, credited by most as the band’s best major label release. “Land of Endless Greed” continues this theme, with vocalist Greg Graffin pushing himself to deliver just the right key.

True North is nothing short of a celebration of Bad Religion as a permanent fixture in music history, and maybe more importantly, a testament to a timeless history of influence and epic releases. Nothing comes off as stale or self-serving. It’s easily the band’s best release in the last 10 years, and with time it will garner more appreciation in the overall catalog. I don’t look forward to the day Bad Religion calls it quits, but if True North is their final offering, it would unquestionably be the perfect ending.

Grohl’s passion for music is unbridled as he talks to musicians and singers like Neil Young, Stevie Nicks, Rick Springfield, Trent Reznor and more, recounting the history of the studio where he and his friends from Nirvana showed up to record Nevermind, one of the most iconic rock albums of all time. His reaction to some of the stories and the time he spends reflecting on the studio’s rise and fall (which happened twice) is like a kid in a candy shop. For this portion of the documentary, Grohl’s varying style of filming the interviews was refreshing from talking heads looking off camera to Grohl sitting in the room with a particular subject or just chilling in a recording studio, Ethan Anderton wrote for the firstshowing.net. These are stories from rock legends about rock history. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Sound City

For the entire duration of Sound City, I had a big goofy smile on my face, and even had a couple tears settle in my eyes hearing some of these great musical icons talk about the start of their careers. This is all made possible by Dave Grohl, a guy who made this documentary as a tribute to all those who keep making music with real people, whether it’s in their garage or in a makeshift studio. It’s about not letting technology do all the work and act as a crutch for shortcoming in talent. Grohl isn’t cocky, but he’s respectful of his craft, and mixes no nonsense about his love for Sound City. The documentary isn’t perfect, but Sound City is a revelation full of musical passion, love, raw energy and a fascinating chronicle of an unlikely historical music studio and the people who made it possible.

Shakira and her beau Gerard Piqué are brand new parents.

The Colombian-Lebanese pop singer, 35, and her soccer star boyfriend, 25, welcomed their baby boy in Spain on Tuesday. The tiny tot’s name: Milan, which means “dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification,” according to Shakira’s website.

“We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22nd at 9:36pm, in Barcelona, Spain,” said a statement posted Tuesday. “Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.”

_beyonce-obama-2013-obama-inauguration-650-430

President Barack Obama’s second inaugural ushered in some of music’s biggest names, and while cold temperatures typically turn these events into pea coat parades, this year featured both gorgeous formal and casual attire on stars like Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry.
Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson Add Soaring Voices to Obama’s Inauguration

The inauguration of the United States president is a celebrated event indeed, even if it’s effectively tjhe follow-up to what was a landmark occasion four years ago. But if there’s anyone who can bring the (white) house down, it’s one of America’s most beloved singing ladies, the first American Idol, a songwriting legend and a showstopping choir.

The Marines are backing away from an eye-opening claim that Beyonce “did not actually sing” the national anthem at President Barack Obama’s inauguration on Monday.

The jig is up. It took less than 24 hours for news to break that Beyoncé‘s striking live performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the inaugural ceremonies for President Barack Obama on Monday might have merely a lip-synced run-through of a track she recorded earlier.

The news is a shocker, considering the R&B queen is no stranger to big stages and annihilating them in real time. It’s important to note that she did sing the National Anthem at the 2004 Superbowl live (at least, wethink she did).

It’s a big deal. In a musical feats of strength contest, the National Anthem is arguably one of the heaviest weights to lift. Artists ranging from the likes of Christina Aguilera to Steven Tyler to Roseanne Barr can vouch for that. It’s understandable that any artist who doesn’t think they could do it justice pre-record their performance. Read more here http://bit.ly/VYOGU0

10 Worst National Anthem Performances Ever

Still, it’s the anthem. A song about the strength of its country should always be sung live to prove that very point over and over again — especially on a stage that is reinstating the nation’s leader. Not to mention that the leader is a man she’s supported since he decided to make his first term run.

  • Depeche Mode to Debut Video for First Single ‘Heaven’ on VEVO Next Friday, February 1st

(Columbia Records; New York, NY; January 24, 2013) – Depeche Mode have announced they will release their highly anticipated 13th studio album, entitled Delta Machine, on March 26th worldwide via Columbia Records. The album, recorded over the last year in Santa Barbara, California and New York City, was produced by Ben Hillier and mixed by Flood. In addition to the album announcement, Depeche Mode have also confirmed that the video for the first single “Heaven” will debut on VEVO next Friday, February 1st. Martin Gore said of the release, “Writing this album was incredibly daunting as I wanted the sound of this collection to be very modern. I want people to feel good about listening to this record, to get some kind of peace. It’s just got something magical about it.”

When we hit a wall where we realize the album is beginning to sound too normal, we’ll mess it up and really give it that organic Depeche Mode Sound.
